Joe Lizura - John Carter Movie

Joe Lizura. March 11, 2012.  I just read that Disney's epic movie ($200+ million dollars) had a dissappointing opening weekend, and I wanted to say that five of us went to see it last night at a mostly sold-out theater and everyone seemed to love it - so don't let the headlines prevent you from seeing it, it was a very good movie indeed!

Move those clocks ahead!

March 11, 2011.  Joe Lizura.  Well, we're only a few hours away from one of my favorite days of the year, the day we move our clocks ahead - and Spring Forward an hour!  Back where I grew up in New Jersey, springing ahead an hour always meant that we had made it through another long cold winter and could finally start thinking about spring.  When I moved away for my first job in Fort Wayne, Indiana, "springing ahead" had a whole different meaning, because in Indiana, the clocks never changed - they always stayed the same.  Something so simple as moving the clocks ahead (or back) had a whole different meaning in Indiana, because for part of the year that meant that we were in the eastern time zone, and for the other part of the year we were in the central time zone.  Being in different time zones always created a little bit of confusion because for part of the year we had a 10 o'clock news and the other part of the year we had an 11 o'clock news - not only that, but part of the year we had Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy --- and part of the year the hour dissappeared so we Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy when into some form of hibernation until Indiana got back the hour that dissappeared.  It's always a little funny, because zip codes Never change, area codes don't change, state lines don't change . . . but time zones sometimes do (at least for some states like Indiana, Arizona, and Hawaii, to name a few) .. but for my state of California - it's time to Spring Forward!  Cheers!  Here's a link to read about why we change the clock: http://on.natgeo.com/zEWu3R via @NatGeo
