The Answer To The Drought - Lake Tahoe! by Joe Lizura

Lake Tahoe, California
I found it!  The answer to the drought is Lake Tahoe!  Check out these fun facts I found about lake tahoe:

*  Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the U.S. with a depth of 1,645 feet.
*  At its longest and widest, Lake Tahoe measures 22 miles by 12 miles
*  The Shoreline of the lake is 72 miles long
*  The elevation of the lake is 6,225 feet above sea level
*  There are 63 tributaries draining into the lake and only one outlet at the Truckee River in Tahoe City
*  Average snowfall at lake level is 125 feet
*  If you were to empty the lake over the entire state of California, it would be enough water to cover the state to a depth of 14 inches
*  The amount of water in Lake Tahoe is enough for every single American to use 50 gallons per day for 5 straight years.
*  The amount of evaporated water every single day is enough to supply a city the size of Los Angeles for 5 years.

So clearly, the answer to the drought must be to drain Lake Tahoe!  Unfortunately if we did that, it is estimated that it would take over 700 years to re-fill the lake with normal rainfall and snow fall.  So, on second thought, maybe we should look to building desalination plants first?

Worst Movies of 2013

Okay, so here it is, December 20, 2013 and already the notorious list of worst movies for the whole year has been released.  How do they decide?  Mostly by box office receipts I think, and that would appear to be true MY family hasn't see most of these on the list.

One exception to that was The Hangover part III, which happened to just barely make it on to the list
as the number 10 worst movie of the year.  So what where the rest?  Here they are:

10.  The Hangover 3
9.    Old Boy
8.    Grown Ups 2
7.    The Canyons
6.    Machete Kills
5.    Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
4.    The Lone Ranger
3.    After Earth
2.    Movie 43
1.    A good day to die hard

Now let me just say right here that there were a couple of these that we really did intend to see, however after hearing the bad review and the bad press, I'm glad we didn't waste our money.  Those movies were The Lone Ranger and and possibly A Good Day to Die Hard.

Otherwise, most of the movies I didn't even know were released - like Movie 43 - What kind of a title is that??

Oh well, so here's the deal - I wish the list wasn't made up until after the Christmas releases come out, because I'm sure there are bound to be a few dogs under the tree there.

Happy Holidays!

Liberty Stamp Disbelief

blogspot for Joe_Lizura photo
Here are my Joe Lizura (http://linkedin.com/in/joelizura) thoughts from December 4, 2013.  It's been two days now, and I just can't get over the story about the forever Liberty stamps.

If you haven't heard by now, the version of the Liberty stamp that has been used since 2011 and printed hundreds of millions of times, does not actually have the picture of the Statue of Liberty on it - instead, it has the picture of the Las Vegas statue of liberty from outside the New York, New York hotel on the strip!

For the life of me I just can't fathom the fact that somewhere, somebody thought it was okay to use a picture of the Statue of Liberty from a Las Vegas gimmicky hotel as the image on an international stamp that is the pride and joy of the United States!  Just how more embarrassing can we get in the eyes of the international community - or even our own!  I can't POSSIBLY be the only one who is absolutely embarrassed by the use of a fake Statue of Liberty on our national stamp instead of the real one!

It's almost like somebody said "Hey, let's use the Las Vegas statue because it looks like Lady Liberty
had a nose job and some cosmetic work on her cheek bones" - and hey why not?  Isn't plastic surgery an absolute trademark of our country?  So what if we don't use the real statue, let's trade her in for a younger, more beautiful one!  Ugh, how embarrassing! And we've been using it for almost 3 years now!

You know what it's like?  It's like telling all of your friends, your wife and kids, and your family members that you're going to Paris for 3 years -- but instead you go to the Paris hotel and casino in Las Vegas for 3 years . . .  AND you send postcards taken in front of the Fake Eiffel Tower and send them out to everyone just like you are in front of the real one!

Okay now, I know there are all kinds of more important problems in the world, but let's face it . .. using a fake Statue of Liberty on our stamps because it looks better than the real Statue of Liberty - and having someone approve it as a good idea -  is beyond my comprehension.

Alright, I got that off my chest - now back to your regularly scheduled web surfing.

What's the deal with this?

San Diego, ca December 31, 2012.  Wow, this is an interesting story, and not one I'm all that excited about.  Being taken advantage of because of my IP address is something I started noticing a few months ago, when I would search for something on "Google" and then with the next click I would get tons of advertisements and banner ads for the word I searched.

For example, I remember searching for rums of Puerto Rico, and then within minutes, I was being bombarded with ads from resorts, airlines etc, that all were in Puerto Rico.

Now, in this article, the location of the computer is determining what price you'll pay - yikes!  Here's the story, check it out:

Why would Staples.com offer a stapler at $15.79 to one online customer but advertise the same stapler at $14.29 to another who lives just miles away? It appears that customers who live close to a brick-and-mortar store operated by a Staples competitor are presented with a lower price online, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The Journal has done a marvelous job explaining how our online activities -- including how we connect to the Internet and what we look at -- are used by companies to target ads at us. For instance, it reported last summer that Orbitz was showing rooms in higher-priced hotels to Mac users because they're inclined to spend more than PC users on accommodations.

In the latest report, the Journal says Staples.com appears to change online prices based on what it believes your proximity is to its own and major competitors' stores, as indicated by your computer's "address."

The Journal did exhaustive testing of online prices displayed to customers of Staples.com across the U.S. It said:

"In the Journal's tests, ZIP codes whose center was farther than 20 miles from a Staples competitor saw higher prices 67% of the time. By contrast, ZIP codes within 20 miles of a rival saw the high price least often, only 12% of the time.

"Staples.com showed higher prices most often -- 86% of the time -- when the ZIP code actually had a brick-and-mortar Staples store in it, but was also far from a competitor's store."

Not only that, but the Journal's study showed that those who live in higher-income areas are most often being shown the lower price. The Journal explained:

"In what appears to be an unintended side effect of Staples' pricing methods -- likely a function of retail competition with its rivals -- the Journal's testing also showed that areas that tended to see the discounted prices had a higher average income than areas that tended to see higher prices."

A very nice story

December 18, 2012.  I'm very proud of my Daughter's high school- Poway High because they had a really great event for Special Olympics.  I also know they tried very hard to get Justin Beiber to come to the event, but he must have already been booked!  Here's the story from the Pomerado News.

http://www.pomeradonews.com/2012/12/18/minus-justin-bieber-the-games-go-on/

It would take more than a wet field, a chilly day and a lack of Justin Bieber to dampen the spirits of these athletes.

Over 80 special needs athletes from Poway High School, Rancho Bernardo High School, Del Norte High School, Westview High School and Mt. Carmel High School, as well as Mira Mesa High School, came together Dec. 14 to celebrate their achievements in everything from the tennis throw to soccer in the Special Olympics School Games 2012, hosted at Poway High School.
“It was about sportsmanship and teamwork, and how character counts,” said Sue Buhler, special education teacher at Rancho Bernardo High School, who brought her two classes of 20 students to compete in the Special Olympics. “We had a lot of fun.”
Erin Nixon, a critical needs teacher at Poway High School, organized the event after her students went to the Special Olympics in Mira Mesa last year. While Nixon said organizing the logistics of holding an inter-school competition at Poway High was “a lot of work,” she said it was worth it. Now that the groundwork is in place, Nixon said, it will be easier to set everything up next year.
“It was so fun,” said Andrea Esparza, a Poway High School senior, who is in Nixon’s critical needs class and competed with her classmates on a soccer team. Esparza and her teammates won second place. “Soccer is my favorite sport, so I wanted to do it [over a different event],” she said. Nixon said the students used their physical education class to practice for the event for a month ahead of time. “We practiced a lot,” said Esparza.
Esparza and her classmates had previously filmed a music video with an academic tutor asking Justin Bieber to come to the Special Olympics. While the day was Bieber-less, Esparza said it didn’t matter. “The video was so fun to make. Everybody saw it, the whole world,” she said. She’s not far off, as their YouTube video was nearing 350,000 hits as of press time (those curious can check out “The Bieber Project” on YouTube).
The athletes even had their own fans, as many Poway High School students came out onto the field to watch the events, some with homemade posters cheering on friends who were competing. Though the day was gray and cold, the rain had luckily stopped that morning, leaving the Special Olympics free to continue outside on the track and football field, rather than having to be moved into the gym.
After a morning of individual and group events, the athletes all received awards in a ribbon ceremony, and were then treated to a lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers provided by the Hamburger Factory.
The excitement still hasn’t worn off for the victorious student athletes of the Poway Unified School District. Buhler said her students were still excitedly talking about the event on Monday, and some even came to school still wearing their award ribbons. “They did a great job of it at Poway,” said Buhler. “It was a fun time for everyone.”

Oh No! Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman Split!

Joe Lizura Blogspot
Los Angeles, CA, October 8, 2012.  The day for Joe Lizura is not quite as bright as it was a few hours ago, because I just found out that two of my favorite actors of all time are calling it quits - not from acting, but from each other.  Danny Davito and Rhea Perlman are divorcing.  I must say that if two people were honestly ever made for each other it would be these two and very few people could argue that.  Their love of laughter, love of creating entertainment and their love of their children made them the perfect pair.

I wish them luck and hope they remain friends forever.  Here is a link to the story from eonline.

http://www.eonline.com/news/352179/danny-devito-and-rhea-perlman-split

Here is the actual story

One of Hollywood's seemingly inseparable couples is calling it quits.
Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have announced they have separated after more than 30 years of marriage, the Always Sunny in Philadelphia star's rep tells E! News.
The twosome first got to know each other when both were coming up in the TV world, and were already a couple when Perlman landed one of her first notable roles as Zena, the girlfriend of DeVito's character Louis DePalma on http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077089/Taxi, before she shot to fame as sarcastic waitress Carla Tortelli on Cheers.
Danny DeVito acts drunk on morning TV again
The diminutive pair tied the knot back on Jan. 28, 1982, after living together for 11 years. They have three children, 29-year-old Lucy, 27-year-old Grace and 25-year-old Jacob.
A rep for Perlman was unavailable for comment.

So it's a little bit of a sad day for me.  Hope the two find peace.

Surprising Six-Figure Jobs

October 8, 2012.  Everybody is looking for a great way to earn a living, and here's an article that shows how enterprising people can be.  The article is originally from CNN and here is the link and the story:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/surprising-six-figure-jobs.html

Clearing trees. Performing magic tricks. Pet sitting. Repairing other people's credit. These people are earning $100,000 or more.

Reads minds, does magic tricks

Courtesy: Wayne Hoffman
Name: Wayne Hoffman
Pay: $135,000
Age: 30

It all started as a hobby, when I got a magic set for Christmas as a kid. At college, I studied psychology. And that's when I started getting interested in mentalism, which is geared toward mind-reading.

Times were rough at first and I had to bust my butt to get jobs, but now I have to turn away business, and I can take off time whenever I want.

Companies hire me to do entertainment for them, I'm also hired to work at trade shows, where companies set up a booth and I incorporate their sales message into my magic. I do college campus tours twice a year. I perform at theaters, and I do cruise ships, where I get flown out to an exotic location and perform magic on the ship -- I've been to Tahiti, Bora Bora, Hawaii, Venice and Japan.

On the low end, I make $4,000 and it can go anywhere up to $30,000 for one show. I never thought I would be making this kind of money.

[Hoffman said his annual income ranges anywhere from $100,000 to $325,000 a year depending on the number of jobs he books].

Sells recycled ink cartridges

Pay: $165,500
Age: 33

I was an English teacher, and the copy machine at school was always breaking so I would make copies at home.

I had 125 kids a day. I can't count how many times I was running out to Staples getting more ink cartridges -- and it was all coming out of my pocket.

I looked online and there are companies out there [that recycle cartridges], but it wasn't a flooded market. So [my husband and I] invested about $1,000 and found some inexpensive guy from Europe to make a website for us.

We developed a relationship with a company that takes cartridges that have already been used, and recycles them, so they ship them out to our customers.

Our cartridges range from $10 to $30 -- if you were in the store you'd be paying $25 to $50 -- and toner [from our website, CastleInk.com] for the big copy machines can be hundreds of dollars cheaper.

I'm making quadruple what I made teaching. At one point, we were getting so many sales a day we couldn't believe how much money we were making.

People were like, 'where are you getting this money to redo your whole backyard?' It's definitely nice to have, especially for a cushion for the kids. I'm putting a lot into savings for them.

Voice actor for TV commercials

Courtesy: Jonathan LockwoodName: Jonathan Lockwood
Pay: $127,000
Age: 46

I got into radio when I was very young, at 17. I was a deejay, and recording commercials [for local businesses] was part of my job.

As I moved from station to station, I found there wasn't a lot of money. So I started doing TV commercials. And when I was 32, I finally left my last radio station to work out of my home studio [recording TV commercials].

I do a lot of commercials for national furniture retailers. I announce the big sales. I just did an infomercial for eDiets where I introduce people who had success on eDiets. I do car dealers and laser vision correction doctors. I did a voice-over for an animated medical documentary. I'm doing the on-hold system for [a bank], so while people are on hold, they're listening to me talking about the various things the bank is offering.

I probably send out a total of 25 invoices a month. To do a 30-second commercial in a local market could be $100 to $250 per commercial, depending on the size, and [bigger jobs] can be $500 per spot.

[What I like most is] that I'm in shorts and t-shirts every day in my home, that going to work every day involves stepping into one of my bedrooms, that it doesn't take very long. It would really surprise me if I'm working more than 18 or 20 hours a week.

Runs a tree-clearing business

Courtesy: Josh SkolnickName: Josh Skolnick
Pay: $250,000
Age: 29

When I was 10 or 11 years old I had my own little business pushing a lawn mower for people, and I continued with landscaping through middle school and high school. [By 2005, I had my own] mulch business. I had about 385 residential clients.

[One day], someone called and said they had a dead elm near their pool that no one would come cut down and remove. So I went out and [hired a contractor for the day to] cut down the tree. While I was out there, all the neighbors saw what I was doing and started asking me to cut down their trees, too.

After that, I started a tree service and sold my mulching business soon after.

Since starting [Monster Tree Service] in 2008, we've had over 10,000 customers. The first year in business we did well over $1 million in sales, and once we were three years in, we launched a franchise business.

I didn't go to college. But at 29 years old, I look at friends who just graduated medical school or are getting law degrees, still living at home with their parents, and I've got houses and millions of dollars worth of equipment.

Run luxury hotels for dogs

Courtesy: Steven and Jason ParkerName: Steven and Jason Parker
Pay: $150,000-plus (each)
Age: 28 and 25

Steven: When we were kids we would always ask our parents for a dog for our birthdays and holidays. When I was 14 and Jason was 12, we said 'what if we start a dog-sitting business to show our parents we're responsible enough to take care of a dog?'

We [took care of 50 dogs] and went back to our parents, and they said 'it's not that we don't believe you have the responsibility, it's that we don't like dogs.'

But we loved what we were doing anyway. So we opened [a luxury dog hotel] in 2005 and it was an immediate success.

Jason: [To set ourselves apart, we have] cage-free rooms and suites, outdoor window views, and plasma TVs playing "Animal Planet."

Steven: In 2010, we started franchising, and we [just] sold our sixth franchise. We plan to open 100 stores within the next three to five years.

It's the American dream. We're first-generation Americans and came from humble beginnings, and we're just getting started. We want to be the Donald Trump of the pet care industry.

We like to have fun, too. Jason bought a Maserati. We took our mother to Hawaii for her wedding anniversary and to her hometown in Italy.

Cleans up credit reports

Courtesy: Kevin and Sherry FosterName: Kevin Foster
Pay: $103,000
Age: 53

About five years ago, I went to go purchase a car, and the salesman said [no one would finance my loan]. Then he told me I had a 460 credit score. He said I needed to find someone to help me get my credit cleaned up. I called a [credit repair] company and enrolled.

It turned out there was another guy who lived in my same town with a very similar Social Security number, so his bad credit had gotten merged onto my credit report. [Once the credit repair company was done], my score went from a 460 to a 780.

[Three years later], I started going to national conferences that are like boot camps for credit repair and I learned how to legally and ethically launch my own company [TRW Credit Services].

I live in a small town and know every car dealership, every bank, so I started making phone calls to every person I knew at these places and told them my story. I said, 'send me all your bad customers and I'll clean them up.'

My total out of pocket was under $1,000 to launch my business out of a spare bedroom in our house.

~ What a wonderful story!  It's a great example of how people can be successful when they enjoy what they are doing.

Beach Boys not having "Good Vibrations"

Mike Love - Beach Boys
San Diego, September 27, 2012.  Okay, so yesterday I was surprised and saddened by the loss of Andy Williams, and today when I wake up I am dazed and confused about how the Beach Boys can fire themselves.  Alright, so they aren't exactly firing themselves, but one member of the Beach Boys is firing the other members of the Beach Boys, which will no doubt create TWO Beach Boys groups tourning as the original "Beach Boys" -- sound confusing?  Well here is the article from Spin magazine (on-line version) and a link to the story as well.  All I can say is don't penalize the fans because you guys are getting all grumpy with each other!

From Spin:

Mike Love refuses to tour with Brian Wilson, et al.
Mike Love apparently surprised his fellow Beach Boys co-founders Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, plus guitarist David Marks, when he announced on Sunday that all three were fired from the band. After the Boys wrap two London stops on their current 50th anniversary tour, Love will carry on with his own lineup. He cited greed, essentially, as the reason.

"You've got to be careful not to get overexposed," said Love in a statement issued the day the band's Grammy Museum exhibit opened. "There are promoters who are interested [in the o.g. lineup], but they've said, 'Give it a rest for a year.' The Eagles found out the hard way when they went out for a second year and wound up selling tickets for $5."

Love can do this because he has owned the Beach Boys name since 1998, after a series of hard-fought legal battles following the death of Carl Wilson that same year. Since then, Love has toured with his own version of the Beach Boys, featuring longtime member Bruce Johnston and a backing band including Love's son, Christian.

"I'm disappointed and can't understand why he doesn't want to tour with Al, David, and me," said Wilson, Love's cousin and the group's defining singer-songwriter. to CNN. "We are out here having so much fun. After all, we are the real Beach Boys."

As Rolling Stone reports, Jardine has gone as far as to petition his Facebook followers for signatures beneath a letter that reads:

"To Mike Love. In order to preserve the validity of 'The Beach Boys' as a whole, and not as a 'money saving, stripped down version' that only contains one original member, and one member that joined in 1965, we ask you to reinstate the three other members to the touring group for your final years performing. It's the right thing to do, and it's what the fans want!"
With the number of signees at 2,700 and growing, it'd seem that Jardine is right about what the fans want. And yet, Love insists, in the most codger-y voice we can muster up in our minds, that "the 50th Reunion Tour was designed to be a set tour with a beginning and an end to mark a special 50-year milestone for the band." Well, harrumph to you too, sir.

Phyllis Diller Passes Away

Phyllis Diller, a very rare lady passes away.  Joe Lizura, August 20, 2012.  One of my favorite entertainers has passed away, but I will always remember here fondly.  When I was a child growing up on the 60s and 70s, Phyllis Diller was always a comedic fixture.  You could find her on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson at least 3 or 4 times a year, as well as on any special Bob Hope was performing on as well.  She led a wonderful life and was a Vegas regular entertaining hundreds of thousands of people a year.

Here is the story from Yahoo:  Legendary comedienne Phyllis Diller, who blazed a trail for a generation of female comics with her self-deprecating stand-up routines, has died at age 95, according to TMZ.

Diller had been suffering health problems as of late: She recently hurt her hip and wrist in a fall and has been living under hospice care at her home. She passed away there, surrounded by family.

FAMOUS QUOTES FROM PHYLLIS DILLERThe wild-haired comedienne enjoyed a six-decade-long career: She started out in stand-up in 1952, and first rose to fame on TV with a series of TV specials alongside Bob Hope in the 1960s. She starred in several TV shows based around her act ("The Phyllis Diller Show," "The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show") and often appeared on the seminal '60s variety show "Laugh-In."

In recent years, Diller reveled in her role as an elder statesman of comedy, outdoing much younger comedians in the 2005 documentary "The Aristocrats" and even performing a routine on "The Tonight Show" in 2007, at the tender age of 90.

She is an entertainer I will very much miss, RIP - Joe Lizura

Bear with a Beer problem

What a funny story!  Check out this story about a family of bears who break into a cabin and drink over 100 beers! Here is the story -

A family of bears has broken into a holiday cabin in Norway and consumed more than 100 cans of beer.
A mother bear and her three cubs broke into the wooden lodge in the north of the country by ripping off a wall, according to Norway's Finnmarken newspaper, and went on to eat and drink nearly all its contents.

The cabin’s owner, Even Borthen Nilsen, told reporters that over 100 cans of Norwegian beer - stored in the hut in preparation for the autumn hunting season - had disappeared.
Bear excrement and footprints – and an awful stench – left him in no doubt that it was the animals that had trashed the place during a night of revelry.

The carnage was discovered by Mr Borthen Nilsen’s mother and grandmother when they returned to the family-owned 26-square foot hut in Jarfjord in Finnmarken.
The bears had also polished off their store of marshmallows, chocolate spread and honey.
Mr Borthen Nilsen, who has studied natural resource management and bears, said: "They had a hell of a party in there.

"The entire cabin was destroyed. The beds and all kitchen appliances, stove, oven and cupboards and shelves were all smashed to pieces.
"They have bitten into the cans and drunk the beer.
"It's almost like taken out of Goldilocks and the three bears."

He added that now that the mother had shown her cubs how to get into the cabin and given them a taste for beer, he feared they might come back for more.

Definitely something to watch out for!

Joe Lizura's thoughts on the drought

Joe Lizura's thoughts on the drought - July 13, 2012.  Here is the latest article on what has now become the largest drought declaration in U.S. history.  http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/07/12/12703598-exploding-hay-watering-bans-are-latest-signs-of-worsening-drought?lite

There are currently more than 1,000 counties in the United States covering 61% of the U.S. land mass (including Alaska and Hawaii).  This is a phenomenal issue for this country.  As a Meteorologist, I have lectured on the subject of water on multiple occassions and my message has always been the same; our country has done a terrible job of planning the most important resource of all - water.

The ability to move water from one place to another is one of the most crucial capabilities a nation must have, yet our country has only a limited capability on the west coast.  The success and survival of countries is not measured by hundreds of years, but by thousands of years, and places on our planet that were once lush with vegetation are not deserts.  Take Ethiopia for example, more than 2,000 years ago it was a lush and fertile country that was so powerful that even the Egyptian army would not fight against it, and now, 2,000 years later it cannot even feed its own people.

World climates change and weather patterns come and go, the "have's" can easily become the "have not's" and no matter how technologically advanced you are, socially advanced, and even militarily advanced you are - it will all come crashing down if there is ever a 10 or a 20 year drought over your region - something which has happened thousands of times throughout history.

Well, those are just my thoughts, we need to make moving water around this country as easy as it is to move freight around on the railroads.

San Diego Padres Sale

Phil Michelson is part of a group of businessmen who have made a bid to buy the San Diego Padres for an estimated $800 million dollars.
Phil Mickelson, a San Diego homeboy and lifelong Padres fan, is getting in on the impending purchase of the team. Mickelson is part of a team headed by former Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley that is on the verge of purchasing the team, according to Fox Sports.

Phil has always been supported and loved by almost everyone is San Diego, so having him as one of the owners can only support the undying love of baseball in San Diego.  Another benefit of the purchase is that Phil and the investment group will also be buying a $200 million dollar chunk of Fox Sports in San Diego as well - maybe we'll get lucky and we can have a few hours of instructional golf videos as well!  Good Luck Phil!  Here is a link to the entire news story - http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/golf-devil-ball-golf/report-phil-mickelson-buying-ownership-san-diego-padres-190338547--golf.html

Divorce between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes settled quickly

July 9, 2012.  Joe Lizura Blog.  Wow, that sure was fast!  The divorce between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes has already been settled!  How's that even possible?  Well it looks like Tom Cruise didn't want to have too much information come out about his relationship, so the natural thing to do appears to have Katie Holmes' attorney and Cruise's attorney (or most likely attorneys) spend the weekend working it all out.  From what I've gathered, it appears Tom is very upset, but Katie has moved on already - well whatever the case, I wish both of them the best as they move forward.  Here is a link to the latest:  http://omg.yahoo.com/news/tom-cruise-and-katie-holmes-reach-divorce-settlement-two-weeks-after-split.html

Joe Lizura. July 1, 2012

Joe_Lizura
July 1, 2012. Charlie Sheen's new show sets a record!  Check it out, "Anger Management" debuted with an all-time record viewership for a cable comedy series.  Personally I must say, I watched both episodes as it was an "hour show" of two back to back episodes, and I thought it was really good.  Charlie Sheen did a great job, and the writing was very, very good.  Here is a link to the story:  http://tv.yahoo.com/news/-anger-management--scores-biggest-comedy-debut-in-cable-history.html  There seems to be a very good supporting cast as well and with the solid fan base of Charlie Sheen, it looks like the series will be on for a long time to come.  As for 2 1/2 men, I think their days are numbered as Ashton Kutcher probably will not be able to deliver the style of show that the viewers had come to know.  Either way, I wish the best for both shows!

Here is more from the posted story.
Charlie Sheen's new FX comedy "Anger Management" debuted to huge numbers last night, scoring the biggest scripted comedy debut in cable history. It pulled in 5.47 million total viewers, with 2.65 million of those in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic; that's the biggest series premiere in FX history. And even better news for Sheen and FX: The audience grew as the hour went on, with an audience of 5.74 million viewers tuning in for "Anger's" second half-hour.

Now those numbers are a far cry from Sheen's former show, CBS's "Two and a Half Men," which drew an average of 15 million viewers this past season -- its first with Ashton Kutcher replacing Sheen. But viewers abandoned "Men" as Kutcher's debut season wore on, with only 11.33 million tuning in for May's season finale. And to be fair, "Men" airs on a major network during the prime TV viewing season, while "Anger" debuted on a relatively tiny cable network in the middle of summer.

Fire in Colorado Update

Joe Lizura fire in Colorado.  June 27, 2012.  Once again our hearts go out to those in Colorado today where wildfires continue to burn out of control.  Once fire, the Waldo fire is now up to 24 square miles in size after doubling last night.  Here is the link to the story:  http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/colorado-wildfires-evacuations-124631601.html  It appears that the situation will only get worse with strong, hot dry winds and temperatures above 100 degrees again today.  Having been through fires like this, I know how bad things can get.  Hope for the best.

Joe Lizura - Television and Film

Joe Lizura.  Joe Lizura Television and Film.  June 10, 2012.  Here is a story that probably surprises most people - Television is by far the largest income producer for studios, surpassing movies by millions and millions of dollars a year.  On average in 2011, for the 5 major studios, television revenue outpaced film revenue 3 to1.  Here's the story:  http://movies.yahoo.com/news/why-television-trouncing-film-major-media-companies-041355000.html   It's interesting to see the charts and the comparisons between the two.  In the back of my mind, I must say that I think "Jersey Shore" and "Real Housewives" have a lot to do with it!

Joe Lizura Facebook Story

Joe Lizura Facebook Story.  June 9, 2012.  Saw this facebook poll that said less and less people are spending time on the social network. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/05/net-us-facebook-survey-idUSBRE85400C20120605  So is facebook losing its fire power?  Personally I think it is just a natural progression of a web network after it reaches near saturation, but although people may be spending less time on the site, it certainly remains very important and very socially relevent.  For example, my daughter just had her high school graduation this week and within 24 hours, most of the senior class of 600+ students had dozens and dozens of pictures uploaded and shared with friends - a process, that without facebook, would have taken the entire summer to accomplish (if it was even feasable).  So it may be true that my personal facebook page (joe lizura facebook)  is in lame shape, the younger generation's facebook pages are still on fire, and judging by how many comments all of the photos have and how many time people have tagged themselves, it looks like facebook is going to be on fire for a long time to come, poll or no poll.

Joe_Lizura. May 26, 2012.  It's the unofficial start to Summer this very weekend! (insert cheers here). And besides heading to the beach or to the pool, millions will be heading to the BBQ to cook up those burgers and those steaks.  So here is a story that has the top 10 ways to master the grill for perfect steaks!  Check it out:  http://shine.yahoo.com/shine-food/10-easy-ways-master-grill-174400239.html.  And don't forget - never mix cooked food with raw food waiting to be cooked, and don't use the same utensils for cooked and un-cooked food as well.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Joe-Lizura_The Worst Traffic in America

Joe Lizura. 5/25/2012.  Yikes!  The list is out for cities with the worst traffic and I'm proud to say that San Diego is NOT on the list!  But I'm NOT proud to say that I've sat in more than one of the traffic jams.  The top 5 cities are:  Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Bridgeport (see entire list here: http://autos.yahoo.com/news/the-worst-traffic-in-america--it-s-not-los-angeles.html ).  What's interesting though is that I've sat in traffic jams in both the east coast and the west coast, and it never seemed to me that the west coast traffic jams were ever as bad as the east coast ones.  Regardless, books on CD make any traffic jam much more enjoyable!
